Lighting Design - Barnwell

Oxfordshire, Summer 2012

We became involved with this stunning barn conversion by working with local architects Spratley Studios. The owners wanted their lighting to have an organic yet contemporary feel, to complement the building's natural materials and clean lines.

To accentuate the house's natural architecture, we subtly illuminated the exterior using up-and-down lights along with up-lights which were sunk in to the ground. The central framing of the wood veneer Tom Raffield pendant (positioned in the hallway) also made a big statement from both inside and outside the building, highlighting the huge window on the landing.

The feature staircase leading up to the first floor was discreetly lit with linear LED light flow; this type of cove lighting emits a warm glow due to being positioned in a 45 degree aluminium profile invisible to the naked eye. Finally, for general illumination around the home we installed minimalist plaster-in downlights which also highlighted the clients’ favourite artwork.
